cathy wright

Cathy Wright, President |

Hello, this is Cathy Wright and I am happy to serve as IMIYA President for 2016-17. I have have been an IMIYA member since moving to Ft Collins, CO fifteen plus years ago. I believe in our teacher education programs as a good way to keep alive the teachings of BKS Iyengar and his family. I have have had 6 trips to India to study in the Iyengar tradition, and for those of you that have never gone, I believe the teachers doing continuing education workshops here in the United States are bringing the best to you. I have been teaching Iyengar yoga consistently for the last 20 years. I encourage those of you who want to teach to keep at it. There are new students waiting for all of us to begin, and for us old timers, to keep going.

robin thorpe

Robin Thorpe, Vice President |

Robin Thorpe started her yoga practice in 2000 and is Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. While living in New York, she had the good fortune to be introduced to the Iyengar Yoga method under the guidance of Kevin Gardiner and Bobbie Clennell. Ever since she has been grateful to have found the Iyengar school with their cultivated and knowledgeable teachers. She feels blessed to have studied with Elise Browning Miller and is a Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer. In 2011, she returned to her native Colorado and is looking forward to serving the larger regional Iyengar community as the IMIYA Vice President.

Pesia Lenczner, Treasurer |

I’ve been practicing yoga in the Iyengar tradition since 1996. A couple of years of life changing milestones “brought” me to yoga. The health club in the building where I worked offered yoga classes, not that common at the time. Not only did it offer yoga classes, all the instructors were Iyengar teachers. At the time I didn’t know that there were “different” ways to practice. As I became more immersed in the Iyengar tradition, I felt I was lead to it. When the opportunity of being treasurer for IMIYA presented itself, I felt it would be a way I could serve the community that always felt welcoming of me .

naomi rabinowitz

Naomi Rabinowitz, Secretary |

Naomi Rabinowitz MD, LAc, a retired physician and semi-retired acupuncturist, has been a devoted student of Iyengar yoga since 2000. After a life-time of dancing that included years as a competitive ballroom dancer in New York City, she found herself suddenly unable to walk. Severe degenerative arthritis of the hips was diagnosed. Iyengar yoga provided her with a way to keep moving - and to keep body and spirit together - before, during and after bilateral hip replacements (2003 and 2007). She attributes her excellent mobility, and generally upbeat attitude, to her daily yoga practice.

Katya Slivinskaya, Marketing |

Katya Slivinskaya completed her initial teacher training in the YogaWorks method in NYC. It's through this training that she got her first taste of Iyengar yoga, and several years later, began to pursue a pure Iyengar practice. She is currently in training to become an Iyengar Yoga Instructor. Jonathan Dickstein and Lisa Jo Landsberg are her primary teachers. She is based in Boulder, CO.

Paige Noon, Regional Representative
and Newsletter Editor

I was introduced to yoga when I turned 50 years old. I began studying in Fort Collins with Iyengar teacher Cathy Wright. At 53 I traveled to India for a sabbatical with my husband and by serendipity stumbled upon master Iyengar teachers. I studied at Yog-ganga Yoga Centre with Swati and Rajiv Chanchani, for two months that year and have returned time and time again over the past 14 years. The Chanchanis were the first teachers to show me the breadth and depth of yoga. Both my body and my mind began to change because of the practice and I was captivated by the subject. It was the spiritual aspects of yoga that really drew me in.
In 2013 I traveled to Pune, India to the Iyengar Institute. In the fall of 2015 I passed the Introductory I and II combined assessment.
I teach yoga to share the practice with others so that they may benefit as I have. My greatest joy is to see yoga become an integral part of a new student’s life. I believe it transforms people from the inside out and the outside in.
